Insurance sales veteran Edward Main joins Aegis Specialty Insurance Services as Territory Sales Manager for Northern California.  Based in the heart of Silicon Valley, Aegis Specialty leverages the latest technology and data to offer residential property insurance through independent agents and brokers. 

Sunnyvale, CA – Today, Aegis Specialty Insurance Services announced that Edward Main has joined their team as Territory Sales Manager for Northern California.  Main brings 20 years of insurance experience to the Aegis Specialty team as both an independent agent and broker, as well as a field sales manager for personal lines carriers.

Aegis General Insurance Agency names J. Richard Dowd as Senior VP-Personal Property

 

Specialty personal lines insurance veteran will be responsible for insurance for manufactured homes, vacant dwellings

 

HARRISBURG, Pa. – J. Richard “Dick” Dowd, whose 35-year career includes a successful track record in insurance for manufactured homes, low-value dwellings and other “specialty” personal property, has been named senior vice president-Personal Property at Aegis General Insurance Agency,  “and will lead our efforts to increase our share of this business nationwide,” Aegis General President Bob Kimmel announced today.

“In recent years, Dick’s success in the growth of this specialty business exceeded that of the insurance industry overall, in spite of a dramatic downturn in the manufacturing housing industry,” Kimmel said. “While other companies have avoided this segment, we not only remain committed to it but intend to pursue continued growth in this space.”

Dowd’s role at Aegis General will include management of existing programs, new product development and management of Aegis General’s distribution network.

Dowd most recently was senior vice president of Sales with American Modern Insurance Group, where he was responsible for similar specialty insurance business nationally.

Prior to joining American Modern in 2003, Dowd was senior vice president-Personal Lines for Harleysville Insurance Company, where he also served as a regional vice president. He also worked for General Accident Insurance Company, where he held a variety of sales, marketing and underwriting positions.

Bob brings over 39 years of legal experience with him, including 29 years of experience specifically related to insurance company, agency, and regulatory issues. He received his undergraduate degree from the University of Redlands, followed by graduation from the California Western School of Law.

Bob also epitomizes the balance between personal and work life we encourage. He has been married for 41 years to his wonderful wife Vicki. Together they raised three children and participate in multiple activities in their community.

As we grow as a firm, the need for an individual with Bob’s skill sets was increasingly apparent and we are very happy to have him on our team. When an insurance agent works with the right MGA, they are granted the tools and strategies that will allow them to provide the best service they can to their clients, as well as the means necessary for them to reach their full potential. An MGA can certainly be the contributing factor to an insurance agent’s success, but what is the key to success for managing general agents?

In an independent study conducted among members of the Managing General Agents’ Association (MGAA), a group representing UK managing general agents, a large percentage of those questioned believe that the main strategic priority for MGA business growth over the next three years is moving into new lines of business or products. Many of the respondents plan on doing so by updating technology and increasing their business development/marketing activities.

What does this mean for MGAs in the U.S.? Perhaps there is a lesson to be learned here. By following suit and moving into new lines of business or products, MGAs would be helping insurance agents to diversify their own products and services. If a client returns to an insurance agent for a new product and they are actually able to offer it to them, this means more money in their pocket and perhaps even more business in the future. Similarly, if an agent is working with an MGA that also is able to offer a variety of products and services, they will be more likely to return as well.

Diversification means big results. It gives managing general agents the ability to offer flexibility to insurance agents, so that they can find their clients the best insurance that meets their needs effectively.
